PROBLEM of the future
In a world that is becoming increasingly centered around immersive technology in daily life, people are not able to fully appreciate the beauty of the world and of San Francisco. How might this problem be solved even in a future where everyone experiences the physical world within a haze of information from hyper-immersive smart contact lenses?
SOLUTION of the future
In 2046, Frolic limits hyper-immersive wearable tech to present a local-approved walking experience that highlights the history and nature of San Francisco. Hyper-immersive tech has made people even more sedentary and reclusive than before. Since tech will have moved away from "clunky remotes/phones" of the early 2000s, remote-like devices will be re-introduced as a way to control the information overload. presenting and leading
Throughout the project, I was the main spokesperson during our numerous checkpoints. I gained confidence in my presentation skills when I saw Ford representatives light up especially during our critiques. Otherwise, as a team, our work up until the last stretch was spread evenly. In the last moments of our project, my role as a leader became more evident when—two hours before our final presentation before Ford, officials from the City of San Francisco, and CCA faculty—it looked like we wouldn't have a final deliverable.
Respond instead of react
"Melissa, we don't have our final video." The motion graphics were completed behind schedule, and it would've taken too long to render in time for our crit. I remember freezing for a few seconds seeing the looks on my teammates faces, but I knew reacting emotionally would further jeopardize our morale going into the final presentation. Even though I was tempted to react emotionally, I quickly put together an unconventional plan and we managed to nail our presentation with what appeared to be a completed video. It wasn't until later that I realized how big of a step that was for me as a teammate and leader.
